Videos of the 1st day!

The video above was filmed right inside the entrance although we didn’t end up using this location in the final video.
Me trying to put my hoodie on while holding onto my violin and the phone which was attached to my ear phone cord traveling up my back and to the transmitter wrapped around my leg.  Good times!
We would walk 5-10 feet between locations, set everything up, wait for people to pass by, film a snippet and then pack up and move to the next spot. Hoodie on and off  and heels to walking shoes was a constant thing, but it never got any easier and was totally awkward each time, haha!  And on top of that we had to be QUIET the whole time (even whispering was discouraged by the Park Rangers cause noise travels so far through the caverns). There was lots of gesturing going around trying to communicate without talking.  By the end of the 2 days of filming and  trying to communicate without talking I felt like bursting into song at the top of my lungs just to let it all out and see what it would sound like! I’ll bet it would sound INCREDIBLE in there!

Music and Nature: Filming “Carlsbad” by Lon Chaffin

Working with the Carlsbad music video crew from New Mexico was a pleasure. We had a lot of Zoom meetings in the months leading up to filming at Carlsbad Caverns in October of 2021. During those meetings, we went through a bunch of different ideas, came up with a story script to follow, and went through a great deal of outfit iterations before we settled on the final outfits. We didn’t overlook a detail when it came to visually representing this music inspired by nature.

When I arrived at Carlsbad Caverns National Park for filming it was the first time I had been to that park! It’s a beautiful place – hushed (because everyone has to speak in whispers or not at all), and awe-inspiring.

Here’s how we combined two of my favorite things – music and nature – while filming “Carlsbad” by Lon Chaffin.

“Explorer Vanessa” Outfit

For the “Explorer Vanessa” character in Alex’s script, we eventually narrowed it down to the first 2 pictures that you see. The video crew sent them over for me to emulate and I did my best! PS, I ended up using ankle boots, different from what’s shown in the picture.

I’ve also included a bunch of pictures below that I found really early on in the process.  Carlsbad became a National Park in 1930  and I thought it’d be cool to go down that road…it was fun exploring all the possibilities.

I fell in love with all of the looks and it was hard to narrow it down!  I’m excited for future music videos where I may get the chance to dress similarly to some of the other pictures… so fun!
